Happy YASSSletter Thursday Gingis!
Hello, my fellow sexy bread lovers! This week has been nothing short of nuts. Zikki ran 4 events this week for our catering company, my gorgeous mama is in town to spend time with our sweet little squirrel, AND I've been developing some extremely (capital) F-U-N recipes for you all for this upcoming warm weather season. 💃🏻 Everybody ready for Cinco de Mayo next week? I know we are!!!

BUT, today I want to take a moment to celebrate something that's been around for thousands of years - flatbreads! Before the avocado toasts and unicorn frappuccinos of the modern food scene, these delicious, versatile, and easy-to-make breads were already satisfying people's hunger. So today (and every day) let us appreciate the OG food trend that holds a particularly special place in my heart and learn more about its history and culinary significance because its honestly insane cool!
So without further ado, our agenda for today:

📜 History + Origin Story: Flatbreads!
Flatbreads have been a staple in cultures all over the world, from the Middle East to India to Scandinavia. And for good reason - they're the ultimate convenience food. They're easy to transport, quick to make, and can be filled with anything from veggies to meat to cheese (yum!).
While the exact origin of flatbreads is a mystery, evidence suggests they've been around since the dawn of agriculture. Flatbreads have been found in ancient Egyptian tombs, and they were a staple food in the Middle East and Mediterranean regions as early as 5000 BC.

In India, flatbreads such as chapati, naan, and roti have been a dietary staple for thousands of years. These breads are made with flour, water, and salt and are often cooked on a griddle or tandoor oven. In Europe, the ancient Greeks and Romans made flatbreads called plakous and focaccia, respectively. And let's not forget the crispbread from Scandinavia, which has been a popular choice for centuries.
Today, flatbreads can be found all over the world, and there's no shortage of shapes, sizes, and flavors. From pita bread to lavash to injera to matzo to socca, the possibilities are endless.
So there you have it - a brief history of flatbreads. While we may never know the exact origin, one thing's for sure - flatbreads have stood the test of time and continue to be a beloved food for their versatility and simplicity.
🌿 Grilled Stuff Bread (w. Herbs + Cheese)
I really believe not every grilling session has to be dedicated to meat. And with that being said, I wanted to share with you guys an idea for a super easy flatbread you can stuff with a beautiful herb mix, a little bit of cheese, then grill on open fire. The result is a super crispy, smokey flatbread, that would be awesome to accompany all your small plates around the table.
🇹🇷 Turkish Gozleme
Turkish Gözleme holds a special place in my heart as it reminds me of many cherished moments from my childhood. Whenever we finished the groceries of the week, my dad would whip up this savory flatbread. I was always amazed by how simple and quick the dough was, with no need for yeast. In just an hour, we had a delicious meal! My recipe is filled with traditional pan-fried onion, spinach, feta cheese, and chili flakes. The best way to enjoy it is by eating it directly from the pan while it's still piping hot. But, even leftover Gözleme is still delicious! Turkey has a special place in my heart, and I can't wait to share more recipes from their cuisine.
🇮🇳 Aloo Paratha
Aloo Paratha is a delicious and popular Indian dish that consists of a flatbread stuffed with spiced mashed potatoes. This hearty and flavorful dish is perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and can be enjoyed with a variety of side dishes such as yogurt, pickle, or chutney. Making Aloo Paratha is relatively easy and can be done in just a few simple steps. In this recipe, we'll show you how to make soft and fluffy parathas that are stuffed with a spicy and savory potato filling. Get ready to enjoy the flavors of India in your own kitchen with this mouth-watering Aloo Paratha recipe!
