Let's Kick Off the Summer

3 Recipes for Grilled Breads!

I’ve learned that Memorial Day Weekend is a very special weekend in American culture, typically characterized by sunshine, reflection, community, and FOOD—especially grilled foods!

Although it is technically not summer, it really marks the very beginning of the summer season, and that is EXCITING! There are few things I love more than grilled foods. There is something about applying high heat to gorgeous, high-quality ingredients while standing in the sunshine and enjoying the atmosphere. Foods develop a profoundly unique smoky essence and crisp texture. Just insanely delicious. Zikki and I put everything on the grill—vegetables, meats, fish, and breads!

So whether you are hosting a party this weekend or coming as a guest, we put together a list of our favorite go-to grilled food recipes just in time for your Friday grocery trip! Whether you make our Greek Gyros from scratch or decide to grill a flatbread, these recipes are sure to surprise and intrigue your guests and friends.

So without further ado, this week’s edition is all about: Grilled Foods!

Stop right here. You must make this dish! A freshly grilled Greek Pita, loaded with all the classics, this Chicken Gyro is making me hungry as I write this. Dripping with fresh tzatziki and stuffed with freshly grilled chicken, this will quickly become a staple on your summer menu. I highly recommend serving it alongside a beautiful and equally colorful Fattoush Salad!

This dish is really special to Zikki and me. The first time we saw it made, our jaws dropped. A friend of ours in Israel gathered beautiful fresh herbs and leaves from her farm and mixed them in a bowl with young cheese (feta). She then spread that mixture onto a widely stretched dough. Our friend sealed the dough so none of the mixture was popping out and placed it very gently on a super hot grill. Within a few minutes, it was ready, and we all sat around eating freshly baked bread with a big summer salad! The flavors were AWESOME and unforgettable. This is a really fun thing to make for a group as it is interactive and truly magnificent.

Have you ever had one of these bad boys fresh off the grill? Stuffed with an herb-and spice-loaded lamb mixture, these Arais are the perfect Memorial Day treat. Both the mixture and the pita can be made and stuffed beforehand, giving you an awesome prep and stress-free hosting experience. Straight from the grill, dipped directly into a big bowl of tahini, I promise you it will be one of your favorite bites of all time.

Quick and easy fabulous side dish for any summer party! Nothing beats freshly grilled sweet summer corn.
