🌸 History & Origin: Mother’s Day

Mother's Day is a holiday celebrated in various countries around the world, typically in the month of May. It is a day dedicated to honoring and appreciating mothers and mother figures for their role in raising and nurturing children.

The origins of Mother's Day can be traced back to ancient cultures, such as the Greeks and Romans, who held festivals to honor the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele. In the United States, the modern celebration of Mother's Day began in the early 20th century, thanks in large part to the efforts of Anna Jarvis.

Anna Jarvis, who was from West Virginia, began campaigning for an official Mother's Day holiday in the United States in 1905, following the death of her own mother. Her efforts led to the first official Mother's Day observance in 1908, which was held in a Methodist church in Grafton, West Virginia. The holiday gained popularity quickly, and in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.

Over the years, Mother's Day has become an important holiday in many countries around the world, and it is celebrated in a variety of ways. In some places, it is traditional to give gifts or flowers to mothers, while in others, it is common to prepare special meals or organize family gatherings.

🍊 Zikki’s Citrus Steak Salad

This Citrus Steak Salad is FRESH & LIGHT. Its seasonal - using a variety of beautiful and colorful citrus, and loaded with spicy wild arugula, crunch fennel, and a perfectly seared black pepper crusted steak. Finished with a three herb chimichurri that pulls it all together. This recipe is perfect for a Sunday BBQ with friends or for Mother’s Day this weekend!

🌿 Zikki's Farmer's Market Tuna Niçoise

Absolutely nothing like a spring time salad, loaded with delicious and crispy greens and topped with mustardy edible flowers. This salad at its foundation is a Tuna Niçoise, featuring classics like canned tuna, capers, radishes, and soft golden potatoes. However, we turn it up a notch using only gorgeous seasonal spring time produce from the farmer's market. This salad is perfect for a light Mother’s Day brunch after a trip to the Farmer’s Market with your mom or wife? Poach an egg and lay it on top of the salad to make it a really good time.

🍫 My Mama’s Brownies

These are my favorite brownies in the whole universe - a treat my mama would make any time I was happy, sad, or in need of anything sweet! I remember these brownies accompanying me everywhere I went in my life. My mom always sent me with a box, full of small cubes of brownies, in little liner cups (she called it "Manjet"). They are soft, chocolatey, not too sweet, and so addictive! This recipe takes about an hour from the start to a slice of brownie. Ohh YASSS.
