Happy YASSSletter Thursday Gingis!
Our little lady + her grandmother at the pumpkin patch this last weekend!
Hello Hello Gingis! October is finally here. YAY! It is Zikki’s favorite month of the entire year. Not only is Zikki born in October, but so is our daughter, BOTH of my parents, and my grandfather. What a month I have ahead of me! (lol) But all jokes aside, October is something made of pure magic here on the east coast of the USA - especially NYC.
Foliage walks in Central Park, day trips out of the city picking apples and pumpkins, apple cider donuts everywhere, Pumpkin Spice everything (Zikki’s the biggest fan), and the spooky cool fall breeze.
As if October is not jam packed enough already, it is also peak Pumpkin season and we’ve got some killer recipes for you all these next two weeks Gingis (bc one Pumpkin YASSSletter just isn’t enough).
This week we are covering SWEET treats made from Pumpkin - next week it is all about the SAVORY!
So without further ado, let’s jump right in! This week on the agenda we’ve got:
History + Origin: Pumpkins
History + Origin: Pumpkins
Pumpkins, believed to originate in the Americas around 7,000 BCE, were first cultivated by ancient indigenous cultures like the Maya and Aztec. Pumpkins took on cultural significance in various Native American tribes, often being used in ceremonies including: harvest celebrations, ceremonial offerings, agricultural rituals and as symbols of fertility and growth. Pumpkins symbolized abundance, sustenance, and connection between humans and earth.
With Columbus’ expedition, pumpkins spread to Europe and eventually to the rest of the world becoming a global staple crop to this day!
Pumpkin Scones. Yep, we made them and yep that are OUTRAGEOUSLY delicious. They are not too sweet, not too crumbly, a truly reflect the taste of fall in a perfectly triangular treat. Tested on Pumpkin haters and lovers the same - a passed with flying colors.
Sticky, gooey, and irresistible. That’s it.
Basque cheesecake is one of my all time favorite cakes because it is truly beautiful and requires absolutely zero effort. This torte will have your guest totally fooled, thinking you spent all day baking! Perfect for a quick and dirty dessert, yet the most scrumptious slice there is. Now add pumpkin…and its game over.
